A dog owner has called out her dog on social media for scamming McDonald’s customers into giving her free good by impersonating a stray.
There’s no denying that dogs are smart. Sometimes that intelligence can be channeled into productive endeavors, like as seeing-eye dogs for the blind, or as emotional support animals for those with mental illness.
But occasionally that cleverness isn’t given a good outlet, and our canine companions resort to scamming humans out of their Happy Meals.
That’s what Princess did in Oklahoma City. She’d sneak out of her house late at night and trot on down to the local McDonald’s. There she’d wait, impersonating a stray and approaching cars as they came through the drive-thru. Some would take pity on her and toss out some free food for her to gobble up.
However, her human got wise to her tricks. Betsy Reyes noticed that her pooch had put on a few pounds, and decided to figure out why. She quietly stalked her pet late at night to see where she was going and was shocked to find out it was McDonald’s.
She was even more shocked to find out just how she was scamming everyone into feeding her burgers and fries by impersonating a hungry stray. She decided to blow the whistle on her own dog and let everyone know just what Princess’s game was.
"If you see my dog @ the McDonald’s on shields, quit feeding her fat ass bc she don’t know how to act & be leaving the house all the time to go walking to McDonald’s at night,” Betsy wrote on Facebook. “She’s not even a stray dog.”
Betsy also posted the video evidence of catching her Princess in the act. One video shows her approaching a parked SUV to beg for food, getting a few tossed items for her trouble. Then Betsy drives up in her own car, which Princess also approaches. Once Princess recognizes it as Betsy, she seems honestly embarrassed to be caught, climbing down from the window and pacing away.
Since posting the videos to Facebook, Princess and Betsy’s story has since gone viral. We’re pretty sure that everyone in Oklahoma will recognize Princess and not feed her any more burgers late at night.
