For 10 seasons we got to know the delightful group of friends on Friends. We've seen Rachel go from a bratty girl to a mature woman. We've laughed with Monica over her need to mother the group and be constantly cleaning. We've watched Phoebe grow as a lyricist (of sorts) while performing at Central Perk. We've all felt the highs and lows of Joey's acting career. We've shaken our heads at Ross's epic relationship fails. And we've witnessed Chandler's self-deprecating humor to deflect talking about his feelings.
But there's one thing this group can be seen doing that remains true in all friend groups: conversing around food. Whether it's coffee and scones at the Central Perk or eating pizza huddled around Joey's kitchen, we found what the cast of Friends like to eat in real life (along with four fun Friends food facts fans didn't know!).
10 JENNIFER ANISTON: CARBONARA
Playing Rachel Green, Jennifer Aniston is one of America's sweethearts. She's also one of the only cast members who continued doing big things in the acting world after the show ended.
When off set, Jennifer Aniston admitted one of her favorite foods is pasta (mainly because it's easy to make). As she told Bon Appétit, she makes carbonara all the time. "I put eggs, cheese, turkey bacon, and a little sautéed red onion and garlic" over noodles. It's so simple, it doesn't even need butter or cream.
9 DAVID SCHWIMMER: Pork Shank
Playing Ross Geller, David Schwimmer is also doing bigger things in Hollywood as of late. He played Robert Kardashian in American Crime Story (which did incredibly well) about the OJ Simpson case, and as of recently, he played Noah Broader on Will and Grace. But let's get back to food. As a foodie himself, Schwimmer told Mediaite that when he's in New York he heads to Pasquale Jones for their pork shank.
8 COURTENEY COX: GRILLED STEAK
Monica Geller was a chef in Friends, so it makes every fan wonder what Courteney Cox liked to actually eat when she's not pretending to cook.
According to People, she loves going to a good diner and getting a classic breakfast meal. "I’ll get scrambled egg whites, turkey bacon, sliced tomato, cottage cheese and a scooped-out onion bagel with cream cheese." But what's her favorite meal? She loves a good old fashioned New York grilled steak. She'll add some veggies and garlic fries and call it a day!
7 MATTHEW PERRY: GRILLED CHEESE
Matthew Perry's Chandler wasn't always a man of many words, but he had some food perks considering he was married to a chef! In real life, Perry enjoys eating a piece of comfort food that so many of us enjoy eating: grilled cheese.
As he told People, he doesn't make them often but he has some good skill in the kitchen. "When I cut it in half, I make perfectly straight lines." He also notes he's not a big cooker so it's one of the only things he enjoys making (and eating!).
6 LISA KUDROW: FRIED CHICKEN
Ugh, who didn't appreciate Phoebe's charisma and ditzy responses? As a sitcom, Friends had many laughable and endearing moments, but many of those moments were thanks to Phoebe — or should we say the woman who portrayed her, Lisa Kudrow.
While Phoebe was a vegetarian on TV, in real life Lisa goes the opposite way. In fact, she told People she loves grilled chicken! She jokes about the calorie count but hey, that's classic Lisa.
5 MATT LEBLANC: PASTA (HI, LASAGNA)
Besides Monica being a chef, Joey Tribbiani was the other character who had a deep love for food. One of the best parts about Joey is how much he loves food and refuses to share it (so don't try to eat off his plate!).
According to Bon Appétite, Matt LeBlanc has a passion for Italian cuisine. He enjoys making his own pasta sauce and doing a big Sunday dinner with the family. And you better believe it's hard for him to turn down lasagna (and, apparently, Thanksgiving-type food as well). He even mentions how his grandmother made the most amazing lasagna and that it was hard to replicate.
4 THE CAST ENDED MOST SHOWS WITH PIZZA
Friends was filmed in front of a live audience which is what made this show so fun and relatable to viewers. Once filming was done, though, the cast would head backstage and have a post-work dinner consisting of pizza.
According to Today, the show's creator said everyone would huddle together while eating pizza and talk about the show. These late-night pizza gatherings only made the group closer.
3 THE MYSTERIOUS TRIFLE
In the episode "The One Where Ross Got High," we see Monica hosting Thanksgiving for her friends and family. Rachel decides to contribute by making a trifle for dessert. After a strange mixup, Rachel's dessert ended up being half shepherd's pie, making it inedible.
In real life, when the writers were adding the trifle to the script, there was some confusion on what a trifle actually was. There was banter about if trifles were mainly a dessert dish or if it was meat. Because of the funny confusion, they added the iconic moment to the script.
2 THE MOIST-MAKER SANDWICH
Who can forget the Moistmaker in "The One With Ross's Sandwich"? Ross's leftover Thanksgiving food becomes part of an epic sandwich he called The Moistmaker. In the episode, Ross freaks out because someone at work took his sandwich, which really upset him. But where did the idea come from?
Writers told Entertainment Weekly that everyone loves Thanksgiving leftovers but they don't remember where the name came from. "We didn’t call it the ‘moist maker’ in the outlines, but we did have the gravy-soaked piece of bread in the middle in there."
1 THE CAST ATE THE SAME EXACT LUNCH EVERY DAY
A strange—but endearing—fact about the cast of Friends that a few of the members ate the same exact lunch every single day for 10 years. Courteney Cox said that Jennifer and Lisa ate a Cobb salad every day. The girls added their own little spin on the traditional salad but that's what they ate every day!
