McDonald’s is a fast food staple when it comes to hamburgers, but their menu has been pretty standard. Or has it? Did you know that McDonald’s has hidden menu items, too?

While you might not be able to order all of these secret items by name (the employee might simply give you a blank stare if you order anything that isn’t actually on the menu), you can order many of these items, including special burgers and more, by explaining how to make them, or even concocting them yourself after you’ve ordered the required components.

Here are 10 super-delicious-sounding secret menu items you can get at McDonald’s.

10 The McAffogato

It’s a mix of a vanilla milkshake with espresso. It might not taste like it comes from a high-end café in Italy, but it will do the trick, satisfying your craving for a milkshake, caffeine boost, and touch of sweet and bitter goodness.

For those who aren’t familiar with the term, an affogato (minus the “Mc” prefix) is an Italian coffee-based dessert. Literally translated to “drowned,” it usually involves adding a shot of hot espresso to a scoop of vanilla gelato or ice cream.

9 Surf ‘N Turf Burger

As you might have guessed, this mammoth burger consists of a Big Mac beef patty combined with a Filet-O-Fish patty and whatever toppings you prefer, sandwiched between a sesame seed bun.

Ordering it as such might confuse an employee, causing them to direct you to the closest steak and seafood restaurant, or question if you’re really serious. In this case, just order a Big Mac with a plain fish patty on the side, and pop that baby into the sandwich yourself.

8 The McCrepe

All that’s required for this makeshift French sweet breakfast, snack, or dessert item is to take a hotcake and dump a fruit and yogurt parfait inside, then roll it up.

Given the thickness of the hotcakes, which are essentially small pancakes, it’ll look more like a McTaco then a crepe. But you get the picture. Pour some syrup over top, cut with a knife and fork, and enjoy indulging in this delicious creation that you never thought existed. Photo: Hackthemenu.com

7 Triple Cheeseburger

McDonald’s has its signature cheeseburger, complete with onions, pickles, mustard, and ketchup. You can also order a double cheeseburger. But why not kick things up a notch and order the secret triple cheeseburger?

It’s exactly as it sounds, with three beef patties and three slices of cheese sandwiched between a bun instead of two, along with all of the other fixings. It’s not a far-fetched idea, nor complex to figure out. Nonetheless, it’s technically a secret item that doesn’t appear on the menu, but you can absolutely order one.

6 Apple Pie Sundae

If you haven’t done this yet, you’re totally missing out. Even if you can’t order it as such (it may actually be on the menu in some countries) you can order the items separately and put together this decadent dessert on your own.

It’s really simple. Get a vanilla sundae, order a hot apple pie, then plop the pastry right inside the cup, or dump it out into a bowl, and enjoy. It tastes just like apple pie with ice cream, a.k.a. apple pie a la mode, and the smell is intoxicating.

5 McChipwich

McDonald’s McFlurry ice cream treats usually come in cups, mixed to perfection with a spoon for scooping. But why limit yourself to eating them this way?

Instead, check out the bakery section and order up the two biggest chocolate chip cookies you can find. Then scoop some of the McFlurry on top of one, place the second on top, and voila! You have your own official McDonald’s ice cream sandwich. You can try to order it at the counter, but chances are the employees will look at you funny.

4 Hash Brown McMuffin

All of McDonald’s breakfast meals come with a sandwich or wrap of some kind, along with a hash brown to eat on the side. If you’re eating on the go, order this combination of the items to save time, and gobble everything up in fewer bites.

All it requires is that, rather than the hash brown being slotted inside the paper wrapper, it is placed directly into the sandwich. One bite and the warm taste of heaven will be ready to pick you up for the morning. Photo: Eatthis.com

3 Chicken Cordon Bleu McMuffin

Another breakfast item, you can feel a bit fancier by asking for a McChicken patty to accompany the egg and cheese between an English muffin instead of sausage, ham, or bacon. Go full Cordon Bleu and ask for the chicken in addition to the ham.

Cordon bleu, translated to blue ribbon, typically refers to a dish of meat that’s pounded down and wrapped around cheese and ham and breaded. But you can improvise a bit here, as long as all of the important elements are present. Photo: Hackthemenu.com

2 Caramel Apple Sundae

You know those packages of apple slices that kids can get with their Happy Meals instead of, or in addition to, French fries? Why limit them just for this purpose?

Order a caramel sundae and ask if you can purchase a package of these apple slices on their own or grab a couple from your kid’s Happy Meal. Chop them into smaller pieces using the plastic knife, pop those babies into your sundae, and you’ve added a healthy burst of fruit to your dessert. Caramel and apples, of course, go together like peanut butter and jelly. Photo: Justhelen.net

1 McKinley Mac

You are likely familiar with the Quarter Pounder as well as the Big Mac,  two of McDonald’s signature sandwiches. You can enjoy the best of both worlds by ordering this gem. Simply ask for a Big Mac with Quarter Pounder patties instead of the usually much smaller ones, and you have this mammoth sandwich.

It’s all of the deliciousness of a Big Mac, including that special sauce, combined with the larger, thicker patties of the Quarter Pounder (or technically Double Quarter Pounder since there are two) to satisfy the heartiest of appetites.
