The World's First Pusheen Café Has Opened In Singapore

The world’s very first Pusheen-themed café will be opening in Singapore on January 6, 2019. The café will be located in Jalan Klapa café Kumoya, a well-known eatery for themed pop-up shops in the city. Jalan Klapa café Kumoya has also hosted other characters like Mr. Men and Little Miss for a limited time. Unfortunately, the adorable shop won’t be open all year round, so those in the area better catch the cute cat fast!

An American couple, Claire Belton and Andrew Duff, created the character in 2010. Since then, the cute, round, grey cat has stolen the hearts of Internet users around the world. From Facebook stickers to H&M merchandise, Pusheen has been seen everywhere. Pusheen’s fans can now enjoy food and drink themed around the little cat.

Business Insider has released artistic impressions of what the café will look like and what the products will be. The entire interior will be designed by the creators of Pusheen, so the artistic style and feel will remain consistent with the character. There will be three main dishes, and they will all cost between $15-17 USD. These dishes were designed by the food artist, Shirley Wong (@littlemissbento on Instagram). With everything so adorable, it might be difficult to take a bite!

The Pusheen café is not the first time an Internet character has taken over a restaurant. For example, Internet sensation Gudetama also has a café of his own in Osaka. While these cute, digital characters may seem trivial, there’s something amazing about the fact that they can bring people from different parts of the world together. Fans are happy to purchase merchandise and eat at themed cafés as souvenirs of a trip to another country. The love and adoration for cute characters transcends countries and languages—or perhaps, we all love gimmicky things to post cute photos of on Instagram.

The Pusheen café will be, at least for now, only located in Singapore. Those who live outside the area might have to find a way to recreate the dishes themselves at home if they want to have the Pusheen café experience as well. Even if you can’t go to the café, perhaps the décor and the food will inspire a Pusheen-themed party at home instead!
