If you are the sort to accidentally burn cookies or bake cakes that inexplicably sink in the middle, but you insist your childhood toys could vouch for your excellent cooking skills, this is the moment you have been waiting for.
In 2014, a YouTube channel named Miniature Space began to upload videos of themselves making all sorts of tiny meals with the help of a fully functional miniature kitchen. From that point, the internet was taken by storm with the new trend of petite foods, each one more elaborate than the last. Miniature Space grew in its content and its popularity, inspiring other channels to participate in challenges; everyone competing to prepare the tiniest possible dessert or savory dish.
As is the case with most trends, practicality is never the main focus, especially when it comes to cooking or baking on a pocket-sized stove. The main focus, we are proud to announce, is absolute, unrelenting, unashamed cuteness. Without further ado, these are 24 of the smallest, cutest meals we would absolutely love to make (if we have enough patience and blessedly steady hands) for characters like Thumbelina, the Lilliputians, or even ourselves.
It is not everyday that we see a pot of melted cheese that is roughly two inches in diameter accompanied by a tea candle, but for someone with the intention to build their own tiny kitchen, this may become a regular occurrence.
Fondue consists of white wine, cornstarch, lemon juice, and a whole lot of melted cheese. Mushrooms, bread, sausage, vegetables, shrimp, meat, tortillas, everything goes. There is no reason why we must limit this to only savory cheese fondue, of course. Melted chocolate fondue opens another door leading to chocolate-covered doll-sized pieces of strawberry or other fruit, cookies, marshmallows.

A bit of flour, brown sugar, butter, white sugar, eggs, vanilla, a pinch of salt, and a cup of chocolate chips. This does a great cookie make, as Yoda might say. From its humble origins, chocolate chip cookies have always found a place to heat our homes with the scent of melting chocolate and hot brown sugar wafting through the air.
Regardless of its size, a chocolate chip cookie will always be a great addition to any oven. Let's imagine an individual choc chip that is only slightly bigger than the tip of a Dixon Ticonderoga HB #2 pencil. Yes, it does have to be that specific. Yes, the term you are looking for is, "Extraordinarily adorable."
Let's get one detail crystal clear: there is no such thing as a hard-shell taco.
This is because a standard taco is only a standard taco if it comes in a tortilla that should not be crispy in any way, shape, or form. If it is, in fact, crispy in some way, shape, or form, then what you are eating is most certainly not a taco, but rather something else. Shredded chicken surrounded by a fried tortilla is called a flauta dorada, for example, not a chicken taco. Plus, making a tiny fried tortilla would be twice as complicated as leaving it in its natural form and preparing everything from there.
If Thumbelina or the Lilliputians are more into international cuisine, there's always the option to make churros.
Slightly similar to a donut, but more elongated, a churro still upholds the principle that frying dough in oil and covering it in sugar is a wonderful addition to the culinary world. In this scenario, Tastemade mixed all the ingredients for the dough in a bowl, placed that mixture in a piping bag, and piped strips of dough that fell right into the hot oil. After a few seconds, those pieces were taken out and rolled in plenty of sugar mixed in with powdered cinnamon. An excellent detail they added was a small cup of melted chocolate on the side to dip the churros in.
One might remember seeing Remy the rat fix himself and Linguini an eenie bitty omelette in Pixar's Ratatouille. If you do recall that scene, you probably share the sense of frustration at the fact the poor rat never got a chance to eat his tasty creation.
Much like in the movie, this omelette is so preciously wee we can't help but marvel at that level of edible perfection. What with mushrooms, onions, spinach, tomato, chives, bell peppers, and chives all chopped with an X-Acto knife, we enter a state of confused serenity as we see YouTube channel Walking With Giants put it all together on a doll-sized plate.
17 Scone and latte
Being a staple during breakfast and tea time, scones are a must in any teensy-weensy kitchen. As long as you remember to keep your ingredients cold and to knead the dough only until it is just combined, you are bound to end up with beautiful, fluffy, risen scones.
Whether you choose to top yours with jam and a dollop of Devonshire cream or blueberry and maple syrup, it may be generally agreed that one of the best pairings for your mini scones is a frothy latte, a nice cup of tea, or the Argentinian favorite, mate.
Said to be the national dish of Vietnam, pho is wonderful for many reasons. For one, it has a lovely signature taste and scent unparalleled to any other type of soup on the Western side of the world. For another, it is filling without bloating you.
The broth sometimes takes three hours to make, as it has the water simmering over low heat with select aromatic herbs and spices along with bone marrow. Time and patience are of the essence when making pho, which is partly why it is more of a challenge to prepare in anything that is not proportional to a human. We surely ought to try it someday using a tiny kitchen, just to see how it turns out.
15 Chocolate Mousse
It is the famous Miniature Space who cooked the smiley-face chocolate mousse pictured above by chopping thin slivers of chocolate and adding them to a boiling cup of milk (relative to the size of the miniature kitchen, that is) containing three melted mini-marshmallows. After stirring, a ladle scoops up portions of the mousse and pours them right into two wide glasses, both of which are later placed in what appears to be a fully functional miniature fridge. Some time later, the mousses are thickened, and decorated with a smiley face.
Needless to say, this is brilliant as it is irresistible, especially for those who wish to make a rich, quick dessert.
14 Chicken Pot Pie
Pot pies provide an odd sense of comfort. It could be the way they set in our stomach. Maybe it is the combination of buttered pastry and a gooey filling, which has acquired a rustic, nostalgic air due to decades' worth of appreciation.
While we may be wary about cooking a chicken pot pie with the assistance of nothing hotter than the flame from a tea candle, we also need to take in mind these are diminutive cubes of meat, making it safe to eat without worrying about it being raw in the middle, the top, the bottom, or any other part.

Nowadays, a Happy Meal contains a cheeseburger, a couple of McNuggets, french fries, and a soda along with a special thematic toy promoting a TV show, movie, or video game. While most of this still screams, 'MONETARY GAIN', we continue to believe it looks cute as can be in its reduced containers.
11 Apple Pie
There comes a time during cold winters where a dinner is not complete unless a generous slice of warm apple pie covered in a ball of vanilla ice cream is served on your plate. Despite all the extravagant desserts that are created year after year, we can find comfort in knowing down-to-earth classics like apple or blueberry pie will never be replaced, but only cherished as time goes on.
Leaving our nostalgia aside for a minute, one of the practical aspects of apple pie is that does not ask for much in order for it to be delicious. If it is good for us when we have a regular portion, it is still just as good and three times as adorable when it is the size of a penny.
Pasta 101: the water for boiling should be almost as salty as seawater. Also, adding oil to that briny water sounds good on paper, but in reality will make any sauce you make slide right off the actual pasta noodles once they are ready. You may apply those nuggets o' wisdom–that we definitely did not learn two days ago after watching several videos on the matter–to your own diminutive bowl of spaghetti.
Whether it is with a little pan of Bolognese sauce or a more vegetarian-friendly alternative, you or Thumbelina could always recreate the iconic scene from Lady and the Tramp with that lucky someone.
9 Rainbow Bagel
Who has heard of a food with a rainbow aesthetic to it? No? Allow us to jog your memory. Imagine a jolly leprechaun. Now imagine the leprechaun drank a gallon of a rainbow that was somehow condensed into a liquid form. Yes, ladies and gentlemen. The leprechaun accidentally puked all over your favorite dishes.
2018 was the year for rainbow cakes, rainbow drinks, rainbow pasta, rainbow bread, and even rainbow grilled cheese. Even though the dye content packed in all of these items could very well kill us one day, it seems like this is a trend that will not be squashed throughout 2019, for better or for worse. The taste will always be a gamble for several rainbow treats, but we have to admit that this frosting-filled miniature rainbow bagel is quite pretty. Just look at it. We can hardly argue with a baked good so delightful.
Sushi was introduced to Japan during the 8th century, then first served in the West during the early 1900's, making way for more techniques and flavors to develop from that point on. For this particular recipe, one has to make the Oreo's first to their preferred size and taste, then fill those up with a piping bag. The actual cupcakes can then be baked, frosted, and decorated with the teeny Oreo cookies.
Pizza is an old favorite since its legendary creation back in 1889. Bread, cheese, ham, peppers–toppings galore. Now, there are cooks and bakers working in fun-size spaces, then there's people like Ann Reardon, from my personal favorite baking YouTube channel, How To Cook That. One of her playlists include a special few proportionally correct recipes for itty-bitty desserts. In this case, she made a creamy, smooth Mars Bar cheesecake.
Anyone can follow her voice over steps to make the most flawless cheesecake worthy of Thumbelina, any regular-sized friends, or even for themselves. After all, one of the perks of making practically microscopic foods is you don't need to feel any sort of guilt for finishing the whole meal in a single bite.
4 Beef Wellington
We've seen it from Gordon Ramsay and in select kitchens, and we can all agree: Beef Wellington is a pain to make, but so darn worth it in the end. You got your high-quality fillet, your mushroom paste with bacon, spicy mustard, and a buttery, crumbly layer of pastry to cover it all up. It can be paired with a salad or potatoes, and let's never forget a glass of red.
If you are feeling fancy, you might just love an elaborate treat made in your mini kitchen, as long as you are not in charge of washing dishes and tidying up afterwards.

Making a cake is challenging enough in a normal kitchen, let alone a scaled-down one. The flavor or the texture can so easily go wrong if one puts too much flour, too many eggs, or not enough...love, or something. Point is, baking can be finicky.

Thumbelina would love having a plate of these little guys for a fancy night out, or for a relaxed take-out night of watching a rerun of Friends from the comfort of her own home. Can you visualize her eating a dumpling with her own pair of chopsticks? Agh! It's too much.
Architecture, but with pastries. What else could possibly beat that?
A croquembouche is a beautifully golden profiterole tower with each individual baked puff filled with pastry cream, all glued together by caramel, and decorated with strings of even more caramel. These look impressive when they are at a normal scale, and they are awfully simple to make. However, when they are made in a diminutive kitchen, we can’t help but respect any cook or baker who is so patient and so attentive to detail that they are willing to use a pastry bag to fill a profiterole the size of a child’s fingernail.
